Mercado Grand Opening

"The Mercado" grand opening happens from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6, at 1384 Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater. This exciting community event will be a collaboration between the city of Clearwater and Unimex.

This new community gathering space is at the intersection of Cleveland Street and Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater. This new plaza features a central grass area, raised landscaped planter areas, a large shade canopy, and a mosaic art installation that will add pops of color throughout the space.

This beautiful new space features a beautiful, mosaic-and-paint mural. Ecuadorian-born and New York-based artist Cristina Salas' work celebrates the Downtown Gateway neighborhood's Hispanic culture. It brings bold colors and energy to this new community gathering space. Her art blends various materials and symbolism, created to bring together the Clearwater community.

Salas' past art residencies, awards, commissions, and solo exhibits have taken place all over the world, including New York City, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ecuador, and many others.
