Check Out a Beach Wheelchair

Beach Wheelchairs 2.jpg

Clearwater values accessibility for all to enjoy the bright and beautiful waters of Clearwater Beach.

That's why we provide beach wheelchairs for our visitors with special needs.

In-Person

Step 1.Go to Clearwater Fire & Rescue Lifeguard Tower 0

Beach wheelchairs are located at Clearwater Lifeguard Tower 0, at 180 S. Gulfview Blvd., Clearwater, Fla. The beach wheelchairs are made available daily to the public. Hours of use are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Step 2.Request a Wheelchair from a Lifeguard

The beach wheelchairs are distributed by the Clearwater Beach Lifeguards. A lifeguard's first priority is to protect patrons of Clearwater Beach and provide emergency rescue service. If a wheelchair request is made while a safety activity is in progress, please be patient, as you may experience a delay in gaining use of the wheelchair.

The beach wheelchairs are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted.

Step 3.Complete a Beach Wheelchair Liability Release Form

Complete the Beach Wheelchair Liability Release Form and leave a valid driver’s license or I.D. to hold until the chair is returned. You may leave your personal wheelchair or device at Lifeguard Tower 0 while using a beach wheelchair.

Beach wheelchairs may be used by those under the age of 18; however, they require the presence and assistance of a legal guardian throughout the usage period.

Step 4.Use the wheelchair for beach purposes only, so others have the opportunity to use it in the future

  • Wheelchairs are not to be removed from the beach areas or used to access restaurants, bars or local businesses.
  • The manual beach wheelchair can go into the water, but no more than 6 inches deep. The wheels are buoyant, but please stay near the shoreline.
  • The chair needs to be used on flat surfaces only. Do not attempt to climb up sand dunes or raised sandy areas.
