Clearwater Selects New Assistant City Manager

The city of Clearwater has selected Alfred G. Battle Jr. to be the next assistant city manager. He will join the city team May 5, and will oversee the departments of economic development and housing, community redevelopment agency, planning and development, and the library. He was most recently Fort Lauderdale's acting director of the development services department and led a team of more than 285 employees.

With nearly 30 years of experience in local government, Battle is highly skilled in the functions of community development, redevelopment, and economic development. He has extensive public service experience with past employment at the cities of Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale.

Battle holds a master's degree in public administration from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of North Florida. He is a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional and Housing Development Finance Professional from the National Development Council.

  • Graduate of the Executive Leadership Institute of the National Forum of Black Public Administrators
  • Board of Directors member for the Health Foundation of South Florida
  • Holds membership affiliations with the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers
