New City Hall Groundbreaking Nov. 22

The city of Clearwater will officially break ground at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, on a new city hall. The new state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-feet, two-story building is located at 200 S. Myrtle Ave. and will be named after long-time former City Manager William B. Horne II.

The new city hall will serve as the administrative center for the city of Clearwater and anchors a municipal campus that includes the current Municipal Services Building, Clearwater Police Department headquarters and Municipal Services Garage into a connected and cohesive public complex, providing dedicated space for key departments and facilitating efficient operations. The building will house offices for the city council, attorney, city manager, clerk, human resources and communications. There will be a new training room and council chambers.

Construction of the new building will cost $31.6 million. Much of that funding, $22.65 million, comes from Penny for Pinellas funds. The new facility will be a LEED Certified Silver building, in support of the city's Greenprint 2.0 sustainability plan.

Ajax Building Co. recently began construction on the building after the original groundbreaking ceremony was postponed because of the recent hurricanes. Final completion of the project is scheduled for late summer 2026.

The architecture firm that designed the building, Wannemacher Jensen, was recently awarded the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects Citation Award in the Unbuilt Category for the project.
