Clearwater Road Closures
Published on September 10, 2025
Below are the road and lane closures happening in the city of Clearwater:
Utility Projects
- The intersection of Belcher Road at Logan Street is currently closed to traffic, from Sept. 9 to 19, due to repairs made to the sanitary sewer system. Follow posted detour signs.
- Northbound lanes of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Court and Cleveland streets are currently closed through Sept. 30, due to potable water utility improvements. The project was expected to be complete this past August but has been unfortunately delayed.
Road Construction
- Betty Lane from Grove Street south including the intersection at Cleveland Street, will be closed Sept. 12, due to milling and resurfacing of the roadway. Follow posted detour signs.
- Southbound lanes on Osceola Avenue will shift to share the northbound lane just south of Drew Street, beginning Sept. 11, for construction of a new hotel and rental building.
- North- and southbound median lanes of Island Way, between Skiff Point and Dory Passage, will be closed for approximately eight months. The project started in August 2024 and will run through August 23, 2025. The closure is due to the replacement of an iron-cast water main along with other underground utility work. Flaggers will be present at times, so expect some traffic delays.
- The Florida Department of Transportation has begun a project on U.S. 19 in Clearwater between Drew Street and Sunset Point Road. This project will repave U.S. 19, the ramps and the frontage roads. Other improvements include realigning existing U-turn lanes and upgrading sidewalks and lighting. Construction is anticipated to be complete in late 2025.

Pedestrian Trail Impacts
- The south side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway pedestrian trail closed to pedestrian traffic from Bayshore Boulevard to Dr. Kiran C. Patel Boulevard, through late 2025, weather permitting. This closure is necessary for crews to construct the pedestrian overpass over Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard east of Bayshore Boulevard, connecting the Bayshore Trail and the Courtney Campbell Causeway Trail. Construction activities are expected to finish in late 2026.
