Hurricane Preparedness on the Roof Brings Community Together
Published on July 01, 2026
The Main Library welcomed residents to its rooftop terrace June 17 for Hurricane Preparedness on the Roof, an evening dedicated to helping community members prepare for the 2026 hurricane season.
The program opened with a presentation from Beach Lifeguard Manager Patrick Brafford about beach and water safety.

Emergency Management Division Chief Jarett Hood and Emergency Management Specialist Miyah McClaney followed with presentations covering storm preparedness, emergency planning, evacuation procedures and resources available to residents before, during and after a hurricane.
One of the evening's most memorable moments came when Clearwater Fire & Rescue firefighters made a surprise appearance by climbing a ladder along the side of the library building to the rooftop terrace. The firefighters greeted attendees, answered questions and shared insights about emergency response during severe weather events, creating an engaging and interactive experience for participants.
The program combined important safety information with opportunities for community connection in a unique setting overlooking downtown Clearwater. Attendees had the chance to speak directly with emergency personnel, learn about hurricane readiness and connect with neighbors while enjoying the rooftop atmosphere.
Hurricane Preparedness on the Roof is part of the Clearwater Library System's ongoing series of rooftop programs at the Main Library. Throughout the year, the library hosts a variety of rooftop events featuring different themes that bring the community together for educational, cultural and recreational experiences. These programs offer residents unique opportunities to engage with library services while enjoying one of the city's most distinctive gathering spaces.
The evening served as a reminder that preparedness is a community effort, and that learning important safety information can be both informative and memorable.
