People Shining: Mercado Mosaic by Cristina Salas

El Mercado unveiled a vibrant mosaic installation created by Ecuadorian-born, New York-based artist Cristina Salas. After a competitive selection process, the community chose Salas to design and execute the work, drawing on her experience with intricate mosaic murals.

Salas said she was inspired by the energy and diversity of the people expected to gather in the space. She assembled the mosaic piece by piece, choosing and placing colorful tiles to reflect that vision.
