Reaching for Knowledge by Gus and Lina Ocampo Silva

“Reaching for Knowledge” is a free-standing sculpture created by Gus and Lina Ocampo, sculptors dedicated to sharing their passion worldwide. The self-taught medal sculptors brought their talents to the St. Petersburg Community College Clearwater Campus with their vibrant blue and yellow sculpture, “Reaching for Knowledge,” which stands in front of the East Community Library. It symbolizes the importance of literacy and lifelong learning and is intended to inspire and connect with students and staff. 

 

The couple has spent the last 20 years dedicated to honing their craft together. Gus expertly wields the welding torch while Lina skillfully cuts the metal sheets, and sometimes they switch roles.
